Program Overview
Initiative
The Endocrine Society’s Weight First pilot program was launched to engage local primary care leaders to promote adoption of chronic weight management best practices. The specific initiative was developed to fill a provider gap caused by the increasingly high number of patients with obesity. The innovative training program was intended to give primary care practitioners the confidence to talk to their patients about weight first and equip practitioners to treat obesity.

Program Details
Weight First Train-the-Trainer Program Pilot
The Endocrine Society engaged four health care practitioners — an internist, a family practice physician, an osteopathic practitioner, and a nurse practitioner — in a pilot program to collaborate with faculty on the Guidelines on Pharmacologic Management of Obesity to develop a curriculum for primary care practitioners in obesity medical management best practices. The three guidelines experts, trained the four primary care practitioners, who reached 1,604 primary care learners in in-person, live meetings and through enduring materials.
